Peer Study Groups Building Confidence
Encouraging children in self-directed studies is one of the key goals of Elimu Resource Centre. Peer study groups is one of our approaches. We gather students together based on their classes. They organize themselves for discussions and identify the topics they want to delve deeper into. They appoint leaders to present lessons on the various topics. An Elimu team member helps guide the process, but the students are in charge.
Children have told us that they enjoy learning this way because they find a fellow student will cover the topic at a pace that is better suited to them and they are not afraid to ask questions. The students who have led these groups have commented that it helped them learn more and gave them greater confidence in the topic. Study groups meet on our spacious balconies where they have privacy and don’t disturb other students in the study halls.
